O Projecto Artists United Against Apartheid liderado por Steven Van Zandt também conhecido como Little Steven (Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band), tinha como base o protesto contra o apartheid existente na Africa do Sul, para tal lançaram a musica "Sun City" (resort de super luxo na Africa do Sul), o projecto contava com variados musicos de renome como Kool DJ Herc, Grandmaster Melle Mel, Ruben Blades, Bob Dylan, Herbie Hancock, Ringo Starr, Zak Starkey, Lou Reed, Run DMC, Peter Gabriel, David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks, Darlene Love, Bobby Womack, Afrika Bambaataa, Kurtis Blow, Jackson Browne, Darryl Hannah, U2, George Clinton, Keith Richards, Ron Wood, Bonnie Raitt, Hall & Oates, Jimmy Cliff, Big Youth, Michael Monroe, Miles Davis, Peter Garrett, Ron Carter, Ray Barretto, Gil-Scott Heron, Nona Hendryx, Pat Benatar, and Joey Ramone.
